War leaves many scars upon the people who wage it, upon the people left behind and upon the very land itself. In the endless siege it falls to the Priests to heal all three. The job is momentous and daunting. Few people look to the Gods, fewer still take solace from what they find when they do. The great flocks of humanity require great charisma, patience and will to shepherd and the priests cannot afford to be found lacking.

Though some will claim that their power is divinely granted, most Priests acknowledge that their power comes from inner strength, tapping into the arcane, drawing on the power of the earth or some combination thereof.

The Sovereignty and the Accord approached the spiritual from vastly different angles. In Aspalaria, the Mediators were formed partly as a substitute for the waning structural benefits of religion and partly to humanize the Ebon Tower. The Arcanists were too aloof, the Towerguard were too inhumanly disciplined and the Phantoms too secretive. The Ebon Tower felt that they were becoming utterly disconnected from the people they governed. The Mediators were formed to walk among the populace, reaffirming their bond to the Ebon Tower.

The Accord did not ‘create’ the Shamans so much as they allowed them access into their organizational and military structures. Charismatic and blessed with great power, the Shaman were able to quickly rise to prominence in all circles of Accord society. Unlike the Mediators who mixed the Sovereinty’s signature arcane magic with faith and spiritualism, the Shamans drew their power from nature and the elemental power of earth. Their innate connection with the wilds and the natural world lend them potent powers.

Priests play a vital role on the battlefield but perhaps an even more vital one on the home front. In Aspalaria they travel from village to village, performing minor works of spiritual healing and preaching the supremacy of the Sovereignty way of life. In Teladir, the Shamans spend most of their solitary time in the wild places, meditating on how to improve their connection to nature. When in public, however, Shamans are a wise and inspirational addition to any council.

In battle both Mediators and Shamans focus either on benevolent healing, protection and fortification evocations or on harnessing their wrath to smite the enemy. Mediators can learn to quickly shift damage, afflictions and bleeding between combatants while Shamans are more likely to sap or boost the health and strength of others through their summoned vines.
