In Aspalaria, pragmatism reigns: faith is good, but results are better, and the Divine certainly aren't answering many prayers these days. Thus it was no small surprise when the Ephemerals were brought into the Sovereignty and revealed that their spiritualists vastly outstripped the lesser shamanistic faith-healers whose population in Aspalarian lands was waning, and even less of a surprise when the Ebon Tower promptly spun them into a fully-fledged organization and began active searches for recruits.With all due respect, you misunderstand. My lack of consideration for your temple is not Divine disrespect, simply that I value the myriad lives you are endangering more.

Thus the Mediators were born - though they are, ostensibly, bound by faith; many pay little more than lip service to the Divine, preferring to use their fervor in more constructive ways for the Sovereignty. Though they were born by the machinations of the Ebon Tower, the Mediators are fairly autonomous as a collective group: the Transcendent should, in theory, guide the path of those under their direction, but as of late they have spent more time wrapped up in political intrigue and have effectively released those beneath them to the general command of the Sovereignty. Thus, Mediators are found almost anywhere imaginable in Aspalarian lands, and often receiving far more respect than the Arcanists, who are often mistrusted by the common populace.
It would be unwise, however, to mistake their lessened training and guidance for weakness: indeed, the Mediators have found amazing potency by combining pure arcane power with their righteous fervor, bringing life to those around them - and just as swiftly reclaiming it.
