I am not sure you fully comprehend what it is you’re facing. I am the snow that buries you alive. I am the lightning that strikes you down. I am Tempest Trael’mon Rah and I am the last foe you’ll ever face.

- -- Tempest Trael’mon Rah
No force has shaped the geographical, political or cultural landscape of Lithmeria to nearly the same extend as magic. Large tracts on both continents have been irreversibly altered by the release of potent magic and by conflicts involving dozens of casters on both sides. The sheer impact of these changes have given Arcanists and to a lesser extent Callers prime places within their respective states. The arcane power flows through me like a million threads of the most beautiful tapestry imaginable. Come, open your mind, let me cast my net upon you and let your consciousness feel the touch of a true master.

Modern magic use upon Lithmeria primarily revolves around the use of incantations. Magical syllables that hold power and can be strung together in almost infinite combinations to achieve very specific effects. The more complex or power intensive the effect, the more syllables its incantation is likely to be. The Sovereignty and the Accord have taken vastly different routes in the evolution of their loyal magic users. The Aspalarian Sovereignty is a mageocracy, ruled from above by an enigmatic and secretive Archmage. Due to their prominent role in the formation and governance of the Sovereignty, Arcanists command a prime position on the social hierarchy. Seen as arrogant, self-serving and aloof, Arcanists are unlikely to command the love of the populace but they are feared and respected by all.
The Accord of Teladir approaches magic with a far more organic approach than does the Sovereignty. The Callers are a far looser organization, primarily tasked with finding and assisting those who have the gift of elemental channelling to come into their power and to avoid hurting those around them. Though Callers are respected members of the Accord, the more independent nature of their brotherhood means they lack the supreme political clout of the Arcanists. Still, as their study tends to take them outside the smoke filled laboratories and into the towns and villages of Teladir, they enjoy a great deal of support from the natives. On the battlefields of Lithmeria, casters generally perform either as artillery or by hindering the enemy. Of all the archetypes, mages are by far the most adept at striking against multiple enemies concurrently. Mages also make the heaviest use of mixed physical and mental afflictions, attempting to force an enemy to split their healing in an unwise manner. Whether channeling arcane energy or the elements, mages are rightly feared for their ability to simply ignore all but specially resistant armors.
I only allow names to those test subjects I foresee surviving for a length of time. For you, Test Subject forty three is more than adequate. You will not need an identity once I am through with you.
