Though much of humanity's history has been lost (intentionally or otherwise) through time, it is known that their origins stem from the east: officially diverging into two main sub-races when a large population migrated over the southern land bridge that has now been reduced to a chain of islands. The humans that traveled west are now known as the 'Imperial' humans, and those that remained are the 'Nomadic' humans. Though initially not suited to life in the unfamiliar land full of hostile life, the western breed seemed to adapt and evolve far more rapidly: while the Nomadic tribes often still refused to work together, instead fighting and in some cases completely wiping rival tribes out over small disputes, the Imperials shed any sort of tribal nature within a few generations of their migration, banding together to increase their chances of survival and subjugate any opposition. We have not come this far by being bickering, petulant idiots. We have not come this far by being divisive or self-centered. We have come this far by virtue of our minds. I suggest using them.

Now, they control the west: where its other inhabitants lacked intelligence, the Imperials outsmarted them. Where they lacked cunning, the Imperials deceived them. Where they lacked adaptation, the Imperials thrived. And now, for better or worse, anything living there lives in their good graces or is considered the enemy, and being the enemy of a magically empowered nation is not the best place to be.
Though a few who returned to the east early on blended in neatly, those who have moved in recent times have been the target of much suspicion: the aggression of the Imperials towards them is a very sore subject, and one that is not easily forgotten. Even the most hard-working Imperial in the east will have extreme difficulty moving up in society.
There is no such thing as an 'average' Imperial human: though most fall between five and six feet tall, there have been notable (albeit rare) deviations, and their skin tone has covered much of the known human spectrum, from pale shades to dark browns. Though the average hair color is typically less vibrant than the elementally Touched, shades of most colors have been observed - and those not naturally occurring can be, on occasion, magically or herbally induced, something that has caused quite a profitable trade for the unscrupulous Arcanist.
