Next Event Tinker race joins the battle

History at a glance:

  • A retreating Aspalarian division comes upon a small hamlet in the mountains
  • The hamlet is revealed to be the topmost part of the large Tinker settlement, Rashtokii
  • Believing Tinkers to be allied with the Teladiri and wary of being outflanked through their tunnels, the Aspalarians purge the village
  • The Tinkers fight bravely but are ultimately slaughtered, though several escape to spread word of what occured
  • The culling of Rashtokii threatens to alter the historically neutral stance of the Tinker leadership

The retreating Aspalarian forces were like a plague of locusts, furious at having been denied on the very cusp of victory. They stripped what they could from the landscape and slaughtered entire Teladiri villages engulfed by their earlier advance when these showed signs of resistance. The murder was often indiscriminate and without central planning, merely the pent up frustration of an army forced to retreat year by year.

Given this climate of blind destruction the fate of the village Rashtokii is somewhat unsurprising. Retreating through a mountainous region a large Aspalarian division fell upon a tiny settlement. Investigating further they discovered that the above ground hamlet was little more than topmost part of a large subterranean village descending for several levels below ground.

That the residents of the village were almost entirely Tinkers did little to dissuade the Aspalarians from their assault. Having become accustomed to seeing the occasional Tinker within the ranks of the Teladiri armies the Sovereignty forces naturally assumed that the village was simply yet another Teladiri tribe, albeit one dominated by Tinkers. Wary that the Tinkers underground tunnels would grant the advancing Teladir troops maneuverability and the element of surprise, the Aspalarian commander ordered his forces into the tunnels to purge the village.

The Tinkers fought bravely. The Aspalarian forces found themselves outflanked and outmanoeuvred underground, constantly lured into ingenious and deadly traps by their canny foes. It was not enough however, and one by one the Tinkers were cut down by soldiers or annihilated by Arcanists. Rashtokii was purged, but not before several Tinkers escaped to spread word of what had happened and disrupt the centuries old neutrality of the Tinker race.
